Girl in or From?

Quite a few people have questioned wether the Johnny Cash song, from which we took our bandname was titled Girl from, or in, Saskatoon.. Well here is the answer.

There is really no doubt that when Johnny Cash wrote this great song it was named, and still is, The Girl in Saskatoon. The song was written with the also brilliant countrysinger, Johnny Horton. It has been said that song was really about the natively born Saskatonian Joni Mitchell, though I cannot confirm wether this is true.
    Another story in the legend about the Girl in Saskatoon is the tragic and unsolved murder of the Canadian Beauty Queen (picture) Alexandra Wiwcharuk (1939-1962). Who was chosen in a big radio contest to promote a concert, in 1961 Cash sang his song "The Girl In Saskatoon" to Alex in the Saskatoon arena in front of  fifteen hundred fans. The first and only time he sang this song in Saskatoon. Only a few months later Alex Wiwcharuk was tragically and brutally killed, the murder remains unsolved uptil today.
    But then, why are we named Girl FROM Saskatoon? Well, in 2003 we spent a night drinking and listening to music back in the appartement of our first drummer/guitarist and co-founder of the band, Morten Jørgensen (RIP). Morten had an old 12´Johnny Cash record which we enjoyed greatly, one of them old non-official country collections put together by an unknown record company looking for easy money. And in the track listing on the backcover of that record, the song was clearly named Girl from Saskatoon. It was probably misspelled by some money making producer somewhere. Anyway, that night we decided that was the name of our band, and it has been since.
